PhD Student Award 2024

19-20 September, 2024

Innovation in Concrete Structures
and Cementitious Materials

Award Cerimony during the NBSC 2024 event (19-20 September, 2024).

As for the previous four editions, the V Edition of the PhD Student Award “Innovation in Concrete Structures and Cementitious Materials” aims at favoring the mutual understanding and cooperation between Research and Building Industry and Professions.

The initiative is organized by the ACI Italy Chapter and supported by Federbeton. It consists in the acknowledgement of the best three PhD theses about concrete structures and materials defended in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Long abstracts will be judged by a Scientific Committee and the accepted long abstracts will be collected in a volume.

Federbeton provides prizes of 1000€ for the best three thesis.

The award ceremony will take place in Tor Vergata University of Rome during the NBSC 2024 event (19-20 September, 2024).

Outcome of the evaluation procedure

Federbeton, ACI Italy Chapter and the Judging Commission are pleased to announce that in this 5th Edition the following new Research Doctors were winners of the Awards:

  • Lorenzo Franceschini with the thesis: A Study on Existing Prestressed Concrete Beams under Chloride-Induced Corrosion
  • Lucia Licciardello with the thesis: Structural Behavior of Extruded 3D-Printed Concrete Members
  • Nicoletta Russo with the thesis: Effects of Cracking and Long-Term Corrosion on the Durability of Reinforced-Concrete Structures

Mentions were recognized to the following new PhDs:

  • Alessio Rubino with the thesis: A Fracture-Mechanics Approach for the Design of Fibre-Reinforced and Hybrid-Reinforced Concrete Structures
  • Klajdi Toska with the thesis: InnovativeTechniques for Monitoring and Strengthening Existing Structures: Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Composites for the Confinement of RC Structures
  • Eleonora Grossi with the thesis: A Novel 2D Dissipative Connection for the Seismic Retrofit of Precast Structures: Conceptualization, Prototyping, Mechanical Characterization and Numerical Modeling

The award ceremony will take place in Rome on 20th September 2024 at the University of Tor Vergata, on the occasion of the seventh edition of the conference “New Boundaries of Structural Concrete 2024”, organized by the American Concrete Institute – Italy Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering and the TERC Departmental Center (Tunneling Engineering Research Centre).
On this occasion, the winners of the prizes will present the results of their theses with particular reference both to the characteristics of originality and methodological rigour, and to the technological and design implications in the field of cement conglomerates and their structures.
